She Writes Her Trauma is a healing initiative by A Beautiful HEART Ministries that gives women the power to reclaim their stories through writing. This transformative program creates a safe space for justice-impacted women, survivors of abuse, and those who have carried silent pain to put words to their wounds and purpose to their pain. Through guided storytelling, journaling, and creative expression, participants learn that their voices matter, their stories have power, and their healing can inspire others. Because when a woman writes her trauma, she begins to write her freedom.

Our Story
A Beautiful HEART Ministries was founded in Danbury, Connecticut in 2017 by Dr. Clover A. Perez, after she witnessed an influx of women and girls returning to prison shortly after their release. Determined not to let that be her reality, Dr. Perez sat down with these women to understand why they were coming back. What she discovered was heartbreaking.
Many were being violated and re-incarcerated for reasons rooted not in new crimes, but in poverty and lack of support:

Woman unable to pay halfway house fees because they couldn't secure employment.

Women violated for not having cell phones, which were required to check in every time they left or returned to the halfway house.

Women turned away from job opportunities because they lacked professional clothing.
These barriers were not about failures of character, but failure of systems. Refusing to accept this cycle, Dr. Perez began planning a program inside the prison that would equip women for success upon release. She organized support to provide financial assistance, cell phones, and gentle used clothing, ensuring women had the tools to secure jobs and stay in compliance with the halfway house and supervised release conditions. She also purchased toiletries through commissary and created care packages for women leaving prison, so they wouldn't face immediate financial strain for basic necessities.
In 2019, upon her own release, Dr. Perez hit the ground running and formally launched A Beautiful HEART Ministries. The word Ministries reflects the holistic way the organization serves its participants, not just with services, but with dignity, compassion, and care.
